Our Story

We’re 4 cousins, our heritage hails from East Africa and India, but we were  born and bred up in the North West of England, pursued careers in Law, media, technology and now live in London. Like many others in the UK and beyond we’ve straddled two cultures and identity our whole lives and a few after a series of family weddings, decided, there wasn’t a fashion brand that really represented our duality. We decided to do something about it, and so Rani by Raja was born;  a contemporary edit of Indian inspired modern fashion, ready to wear and made to measure.

Our model has evolved since our inception in 2016, due to our ever changing relationship with fashion; we’ve obsessed with its power to drive change, we’re also incredibly mindful of its environmental impact.

Buying sustainably means buying well. Pieces you’ll covet  and importantly pieces that fit well. Sizing is one of the messiest parts of the industry. So much depends on style, cut, shape as to what is right for you. If you’re too tall, too short, pear shaped (the list goes on), it’s hard to find clothes that fit well or the sizes just aren’t available.

Fashion is one of the most personal things we have, so it seems only right tailoring and made to order should be accessible, it is more sustainable and practical. Made to measure is one of our most popular services.

Custom pieces that are size ‘you’. We build in enough material to make alterations as we all change size and shape over the years.

We still sell our merch and donate the money to charity. We choose different charities each year. Each season we’ll do a very limited drop of hoodies and tees, once they’re gone, they’re gone. We’ll also continue our bespoke consultancy and styling made to measure only for select clients.

The product

Historically, we’ve worked with a curated number of key designers in India and complemented each season with a collection of our RANI own collection. Whilst we’ll still work with a very tightly curated list of designers in India, our focus will be on our own collection.

We’re developing the RANI own collection inspired by our personal style and a marriage of the East and West. Our bespoke consultancy/ styling service will curate from a range of designers in India plus our own designed pieces working with a designer in Delhi
